Following digital marketing trends can help you sell more chips, meet more people, and close more deals. Here’s how.

Unlock your phone and it won’t be long before you come across some form of digital marketing. As we grow more and more immersed in our digital devices, you have increasingly creative methods of reaching your target audience. Learn to recognise digital marketing trends and learn what makes them powerful… and reap the benefits.

Stay Mobile

Mobile marketing has become an easy and efficient way for companies to reach their intended audience. Mobile devices are how we consume so much of our digital media, so your advertising has to be ready for these platforms. App-based marketing is on the rise, but it doesn’t mean you must build your own app.
Smartphone apps like Facebook’s Messenger and Instagram are now advertising platforms in their own right. Having a strategy to work with these platforms is the way to get on board with this trend.

It’s ‘Appening

But, if you do want to build your own app, design your app to take advantage of these factors. Mobile apps can do a bunch of very useful things that web browsers can’t. They can send notifications to users based on time and location– and this equals higher engagement. These are the remind notifications you get coming through your phone or smartwatch. You’d be used to notifications coming in from your social media, your fitness tracker, or your favourite news outlet… But what about your favourite fast food restaurant? Businesses can really lure their customers in with mobile technology– it’s simpler than you might think. If you were that fast food restaurant, you could send this notification:
“Free Small Chips if you visit us today!”
Your customers will appreciate the offer, and they let you upsell them while they’re there
But what about a geo-based notification? Send that “free chips” notification when your customers get within walking distance of your restaurant. You might just sell more milkshakes with those chips…

ARe you ready?

In 2016, we also saw the potential for apps using Augmented Reality (AR). Pokémon Go combined AR with geo-based marketing magic and reached a peak of 27 million daily downloads. Despite the fact that enthusiasm for the game has now dissipated, the demand for the app shows that everyday people are seeking mobile experiences with real world environments. Many brands have begun to publish new apps which cater towards audiences who enjoy AR content. With a little creativity, this can work for a wide range of brands:
A furniture company could provide an AR app that allows you to see how your new couch will look in your home. A make-up brand could use AR to let you experience a lipstick on your skin before you buy it online. As Pokémon Go showed us, AR has global appeal. And it could take your product to the global stage…

Live streaming will expand as a digital trend in 2017. Facebook and Instagram notify users when their friends start a live video so naturally it’s amazing for engagement. On Facebook, you can watch the reactions come in along the bottom of the screen as the video plays out. It comes as no surprise, then, that it’s not just bloggers on Facebook, Instagram and YouTube that are using this feature. Politicians and celebrities use these features for real-time Q&As that give them control over the content. It not only gives them great engagement, but it gives them greater control over the content as compared to a TV Q&A. And much cheaper than buying a slot on TV….

Keeping on top of digital marketing trends can be a tough job. But when you get them right, the rewards come rolling in.
