Campaigns stuck? Here are some email marketing tips to get them moving again!

Maybe you’ve been there: you’ve crafted a marketing email, edited and re-edited every word. You’ve made sure every one of the design elements is precise and perfect. You hit send, and the email stats… are a complete flop.

When it comes right down to it, email marketing is all about getting the basics right. The rest will follow.

Of course, this doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be focusing on the specifics of your email. But you also need to be thinking big picture. Constantly. Now we don’t mean you need to lose sleep over this, but you need to make sure your voice, layout, and conversion optimisation are working hard. It’s the big stuff that makes a big impact.

It shouldn’t be a challenge for people to want to open and read your emails, and we at Dando want to make sure that checking your stats isn’t a disappointment anymore. So first, it’s important that you’re crafting your emails right. Be personal in your emails; stop talking about your subscribers and your ‘list’. If you write your copy like you’re emailing one person it instantly personalises what you’re saying, and people are more likely to connect with it. Another great way to do this is to use your actual name in your ‘from’ address. Studies show that people are way more likely to read an email from a person’s name rather than just a company.

It’s also important to email with a purpose. You’ll never achieve anything with email marketing if you don’t know what you want to achieve. If you know email marketing drives engagement for your brand, but don’t know exactly what to write about, then use this easy formula: the 1-2-3 method. Give readers three pieces of information– hopefully useful information. Maybe it’s the next three steps in setting up their account, or three things you really want people to know about your company. It’ll keep your emails short, focused, and enthusiastic.

But all this doesn’t matter if people aren’t actually opening your emails at all. So promise something good. If people know specifically what to expect when they open your email, and if they know they’ll be happier or better informed, they’ll be itching to read more. We’ve also seen that it’s a great idea to use numbers, because digits, like 17 or 3 stop wandering eyes, and lists appeal to basically everyone. Buzzfeed has huge success with it, why shouldn’t you? None of this means that you shouldn’t try something new, so be inventive and experiment with your emails, you never know what people will love.

If all this is overwhelming you already, and you haven’t even sent an email, give us a call! We’ll set your mind at ease and keep those conversions coming in.
