Digital strategies – by now everyone has heard of them, but does anyone really understand them fully? The question of what actually is a digital strategy is one that comes up again and again as companies invest in digital technology and businesses move online. But if it’s never explained straight up, it’s ridiculous to expect anyone to understand how to effectively implement one.

So what is a digital strategy?

Plainly, a digital strategy is a plan of action to help you accomplish your business goals with the benefit of digital tools. A more complex definition might be that a digital strategy involves listening and responding to consumers, bridging brand experiences and marketing strategies, and collecting and activating consumer relationships. Allin order to accomplish your business’s key goals and objectives.

Your digital strategy covers all of your business goals, your digital action plan, and how your digital activities will integrate with your overall business plan. Establishing clear goals for both your digital marketing and the money going into your digital marketing means that you will be overall more effective at drawing in business and achieving objectives.

In fact, recent polls have found that 47% of businesses are marketing digitally….  But have no defined digital strategy. At all. This can have some seriously negative impacts on your business: you’ll spend tons of time and money on a digital presence that isn’t a worthwhile investment. Not to be crude, but when your online marketing has no clear goals or set purpose, you are flushing your money down the toilet.

No matter your own company’s goals, you can effectively translate analogue or “real-life” sales, shop visits and interest into the digital world. This means that the avenues to your business open dramatically and you are driving interest and money to your business in real time.
This reward is, however, reliant on this premise: a digital strategy is not a fixed plan. In order to succeed it needs to be constantly tested, developed and maintained. And this is what is forgotten by so many. Keep up with this continuous evolution, even in this age of innovation and improvement, you will never fall behind.
