What is social media marketing?

Right off the bat, the idea of social media marketing seems pretty simple. Many businesses hear social media marketing, and immediately think Facebook posts. And they leave it at that. But in the reality of online marketing, social media is so much more.
 
In its essence, it is a form of marketing that uses a variety of social media platforms to achieve your marketing goals. To reach a bigger audience, to sell products, to build a better brand profile. The key here is variety: a few Facebook ads aren’t going to cut it. When using social media to market your product or company, use what is available to you. Have you got access to influencers on YouTube or Instagram? An existing Twitter audience? Or even potential to find one? Time to leverage it!

So think first and foremost about your goals; who is your target audience? What are their social media preferences? How do they use social media? These are crucial elements that will help you develop your strategy.

It also removes the ineffective aspects of targeted ads, like banners and sidebars people barely notice.
