DM D’n’M

February 28, 2018

It was a balmy Summer night in late February—probably one of the last few for the year.

Sure, we could have been sunning ourselves on the beach, splashing around in the water, and generally engaging in frivolity.

But even though we like fun just as much as the next digital agency, at Dando we’d rather stay up-to-date and informed than work on our tans.

So, on the 27th of February, 2018, we were at the dm Forum—a quarterly event for marketers held in Melbourne that has been running since 2002.

The dm Forum has previously welcomed presentations from advertising agencies such as McCann, Leap agency, Clemenger Digital Blue, Grey Advertising, and Naked Communications.

There have also been presentations from marketers in companies such as GE Money, GMH, Fuji Xerox, ANZ, Origin Energy, NAB, The Age, Officeworks, Virgin Australia, Edge Custom, Kogan, YMCA, SEEK, City of Melbourne, Coles, and Google.

But, if you were sunning yourself on the beach this time around, never fear—we’re not here to pass judgement. We wouldn’t do that. We’re just here to tell you what a great time we had!

Trudi Sampola, Marketing Transformation Director at Carsales, spoke about the intersection of Employer Brand and Consumer Brand, and how to stand out from the crowd. She also identified the role of ‘fast’ (i.e. automated) and ‘slow’ (i.e. analytical) components in a workplace, and how they can best work together.

There was plenty of relevant information to take from the success of Carsales, which is now worth $3.44 billion and employs over a 1000 people globally. Trudi pointed to factors such as keeping it simple, remaining open-minded, celebrating the small wins, and to regular reflection.

The other speaker was Grant Arnott, founder of Click Frenzy. This is a regular online ‘event’ that provides shoppers with unique, online deals over a 24-hour period. His particular focus was on the journey from a major site crash on debut, to now having two-million shoppers.

As it always is, the dm Forum was a professional and insightful event that we thoroughly enjoyed—it is a truly fantastic night that Dando enthusiastically supports.

So, If you would like to meet with fellow marketers over a drink and listen to a couple of interesting presentations, then the dm Forum is for you.
